Strudy Case

I bought this for a small laptop. Main reason is because when I travel it is in the back of my unsecured pickup. No rain water or dust (I have driven on dirt roads very extensivly) and could not see any evidence that anything leaked inside the case. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because the lid organisor is useless because it always falls down (weak glue I guess) and also because of the price. Also, this is a very rough looking case and might not be appropiate in a business setting. when I brought it to work the first time co-workers thought that it was a weapons case lol. Also. you can search youtube for torture tests on storm cases. quite impressive.

I ordered this case with high expectations and was pleasantly surprised by some features that weren't listed above, Like the Grid System for personalized smaller items and cords under the laptop and the New Velcro system on top instead of glue.

Pros and Cons

I purchased this case with the computer tray for deployment. This is my first pelican case, but based on reputation what I chose to use for my personal electronics while forward. Things not clear to me prior to arrival from factory description:1. The model is im2370-00003 for the version with the computer tray2. The latches have a built in key lock system in addition to the two security hasps that can be dead bolted. 3. There is pluck and pull foam undeneath the compter space. The good:- Case is Made in USA, extremely high quality product, can be run over, dropped from helicopter. You can find many a torture test on youtube. - It comes with a shoulder strap that is decent quality- The handle is very comfortable and is designed to snap to stay flush to the case when not in use. - The hinges and latches have smooth action and seem to be quite tough. - Plenty of room inside: In the pluck foam I have a bose soundlink, a 500GB HDD, Canon s95 with case, canon charger, iphone, ipad and iphone charger. I have a lenovo t420 in the tray which leaves about 1 inch length by 2. 5'' height space that is filled by the adjustable tray. The space on the right of the tray has my assorted chargers and cords as well as mouse. The organizer on top has space for a kindle and iPad. As well as pens, and small items- There are recessed groves about 1. 5'' wide along the exterior of the case inline with the hatches which make a nice place to put name, sticker whatever with little danger of it getting rubbed off. The bad: (why I gave it 4 stars)- The two padlockable hasps are a little small. They measure about 1 cm in size. I have sesamee combination locks that have the exact same diameter Sesamee K0436 4 Dial Bottom Resettable Combination Brass Padlock with 1-Inch Shackle and 10, 000 Potential Combinations. These are reinforced plastic but there is not a metal reinforcement like on other pelican cases I have seen (which generally have a bigger diameter). This was an easy fix with a file. - The utility organizer is probably my biggest beef. It is made in china, but the workmanship is good. It is made of a faux leather and is stitched well. Additionally it attatches with two rows of heavy duty velcro. It is the design that is terrible. The folding accordion divider has four leaflets which expands to the entire depth of the case. No one is ever going to keep it that full with the laptop tray in place. What results is a sloppy system that can interfere with the closing of the case and is overall not practical. If this were simply smaller 1'' depth it would improve functionality tremendously. I cut this down and sewed it together, which as long as my sewing holds up works great. - I am not sure of what metal the springs, locks, and latches are made of. Time will tell if these will rust. Overall: It appears to be a fantastically well built case that will serve its function well. I am able to store everything electronic and sensitive I plan to bring and would say it has much more capacity than I anticipated. I would love to give it five stars but, the divider pushes it to four. Will plan to update review at end of deployment once I give it my personal torture test.

Compare to Pelican 1490.

I have 3 Pelican 1490 cases (#1490CC1 Pelican Laptop Case). I've been using them for gear and as a computer case - daily - for years. I work in harsh industrial enviroments and have traveled the world with my 1490 cases. It's hard to find a bad thing to say about them. It was time for a new computer case so of course I looked at Pelican. Since the last time I looked for a new case Pelican had purchased Hardigg. Hardigg was a competitor to Pelican with a lot of overlap in the product lines. As far as I can tell Pelican is continuing the Hardigg Storm case line. This case (iM2370) is very close to the Pelican 1490. It is thicker and just a little wider. I don't have a scale precise enough to tell a difference in weight - there is not a noticeable difference to my shoulder. One thing I like about this case over the 1490 is the latches. They are much more secure and hold the lid more firmly closed. The 1490 case latches have some ''spring'' to them that does not let them latch as firmly. The iM2370 latches are a harder plastic and have a nice double action required to open them. The interior is very similar. I'm not sure if the interior parts are a carry-over from Hardigg, or a redesign by Pelican. I sort of like the lid organizer in the 1490 better, but it may be that I just got use to it. The accordion section in the iM2370 is too expandable which makes it floppy. It can actually flop over enough to interfere with the lid seal. So far the lid organizer is staying attached nicely. That was a slight problem on the 1490 cases. If you can justify the cost, this case will last a long long time and will protect your important contents.

Great case but.

I love the case, it's amazingly sturdy(as expected though) nice looks and great grip in the handlebar. but the are two things that I didn't like at all:- The organizer compartment is really flozy, it's near impossible to keep thing tied up together, it almost drop down by it self!- It's incredibly heavy! obviously, this might be normal because of the hardness of the case. If you're looking for protection at high rate, water tight tech and plenty of room for a laptop plus accessories, this is your choice for sure!

Not the cheapest but the best!

You pay for quality but it's sturdy and can be bit heavy for normal everyday carrying. But if you plan to ship or check your laptop with checked baggage, you can't go wrong. This case easily fit a 15. 6 inch screen laptop and the side pocket (though no custom foam padding) works well for smaller AC adapters but prepare to swivel and turn trying to get the bigger adapters in here.
