Great! Rock Solid! Waterproof! BUT, Not So Great For Flying.
by Valued Customer on January 07, 2018

Great and very sturdy. Only issues were when I was traveling:On regular plane flights, it won't fit underneath the seat in front of you. I got it to fit once on United, but I had to jam it in there. Hapf of the time I fly, I can't get it into the overhead bin either. When boarding smaller planes, they stopped me at the gate and made me store it under the plane (gave me a ticket to pick it up when I deboarded the plane because it was too big). It is very sturdy but very large and awkward. There is nothing really recommending this as a carry-on, so I didn't want to rate it any lower than 5 stars because it works great for everything else.

I bought this one a few months ago because I'm in Afghanistan and wanted something more durable than my regular laptop bag. Going on convoys from one place to the next and seeing everyone's computers being stepped on, dropped, and abused, I wanted something that would protect it and not have to worry about someone stepping on it or putting something else on top of it. After I got it I put my Gateway FX P7805U 17'' screen inside but wouldn't fit with the sleeve and battery. I had to remove the battery then put it in the sleeve. Next was the power cord, I had to put half of it in the little sleeve provided as well as with my battery and it zipped up nicely. Put the other half of the cord on top of the lid because there was no more room on bottom. No room for a mouse or hard drive or anything else of that sort for my particular set up but I don't fray away from that on the review. It's a little heavy for sure with all things inside it but you don't have to worry about anything being broken or getting wet. Will purchase again for my newer laptop that I have coming in and see if there's a lil different set up for it or one that's a little bit bigger to store anything extra like a hard drive, mouse, and any other small accessory.

Straight to the point, if you are looking for protection for your larger laptop this is it. But there is a price to pay.

Let me start with the fact that this is quite a large case. It does protect the laptop well but is a bit on the heavy and awkward side. That is the price you pay for this type of protection. This is my second Pelican laptop case, my first was the smaller 1490 with the lid organizer and the fitted tray. I used it for years with a 14'' Dell laptop and was extremely please with the fact that I could carry the laptop with all of the extras that i needed (charge cords, network/USB/video cables, wireless/network/modem PCMCIA cards.) in one case. I upgraded to a larger 17. 3'' Toshiba S75t and needed a new case. I ordered the 1495 and have been using for almost a year now and am very pleased with it. The padded sleeve protects the laptop extremely well on it's own and is convenient to use without the case around an office environment. It fits nicely into the case with the included accessories pouch, but due to the size of my laptop (and the full sized mouse that I have in the pouch) things are a little snug. I like the lid organizer which was something that I really liked on my previous case. The zipper on the organizer is a bit of a pain as the pull tab dangles from the lid while closing and can hang up on the sleeve while closing the lid (I have it tucked into the zipper to keep it up). One review complained about the lid organizer being glued to the lid, mine is attached with screws (my previous case had it attached with Velcro). Without a fitted tray (as the 1490 had) there is no place for accessories. Since this would add to the size and weight of the case I have found that I can live with it.

Perfect for Laptop. More!

17 Toshiba laptop + [flat] cooling pad (Logitech N315, accommodates a 17'' perfectly) with built-in slide-out mouse pad both fit nicely in the laptop slip. If you were wondering (like I was), a Samsung Note 10. 1 and Bluetooth keyboard do fit nicely side by side in the upper lid organizer. If you were wondering (like I was), a Samsung Galaxy SII phone fits well (I wouldn't try a bigger phone) in the phone holster: AND the latch strap still fits/snaps fine. The accessory pouch fits the power supply and my Bluetooth Microsoft mouse: With room to spare in the upper zipper compartment for your favorite pens/mech. pencils. The picture shows the upper lid with two missing screws, mine came with all 6. Also regarding the upper-lid accessory assembly, there is some play/free space to the top of the lid, so when you close the lid, it seems it won't crush your devices. Be careful to no force the case to deform by overfilling, you will notice the edge would bulge and most certainly would result in poor seal. I was quite disappointed when I buy a product ''Made in the USA, '' to find a label inside the accessory pouch ''Made in China!'' I'm writing Pelican an email right after this review and giving them the what-for!Recommended to include a good quality desiccant (I got mine from Container Store for about 6 bucks with built-in humidity indicator). I own a number of different Pelican cases, and this one does not disappoint. I'm sure this luggage will survive well beyond several revisions of laptops to come. Very solid construction and worth every penny.

I own a dell precision 7710 and wanted to see if this case would fit a mouse, the power brick, a harddrive, coolermaster laptop cooler, . Nope!It can fit the laptop and the cooler but no room for a mouse and powerbrick. Also, a pair of headphones. Althoigh i love the built quality, it can't fit my essential items that i keep together.

Heavy, solid, expensive but well worth it!
by Valued Customer on June 17, 2015

I'll sum up what has previously written: This case is HEAVY. It is SOLID. It is EXPENSIVE. But it is definitely WORTH IT. Latches lock down secure, and I've had NO issues with the security lock. The numbers roll and line up as expected. . . I have an ASUS Multimedia N550JX-DS74T 15. 6 inch IPS FHD laptop and it fits perfectly not only in the laptop sleeve, but in the case itself. If you understand the above factors, you'll not regret purchasing this case. Highly recommended! The laptop power cord is secured in its own case so that isn't a problem. I even put an 8 TB hard drive, a 1 TB hard drive, my mouse and my backup battery for my 1DX on top of the laptop and the case still closed as expected. Be careful you don't pinch the hard drive's cables cause the case locks down tight.

Protection For A Premium
by Valued Customer on January 15, 2011

PROS:This is a very solid case that will undoubtedly last a very long time. Room for cords and some extras. Locks up tight. Well built. Great for traveling. Can withstand whatever mother nature throws at it. Has a nice sleeve inside to put your PC in. There is a padded bumper that goes around the inside bottom half of case for protection. Great warranty. CONS:This case is heavy and if I had to carry it around all day long, I would go with a lighter model. No built in protection tray for PC. You also have to unlatch 4 clasps around the case to open it which, doesn't seem like much but is a hassle at times. Expensive to purchase this case costs a lot of money. Conclusion:I gave it four stars because it it needs refining. My use is mostly traveling by truck and I put the case in and out several times throughout the day. At times it gets bumped and banged. For my application it works well. A 15 inch Toshiba L655 fits nicely with room to spare. I have the old 1490 which I just love but needed a half inch bigger case for my new PC. That case stood the test of time and protected my PC for many years taking hits along the way. Recommendations:I would like to see a better latch design, four latches are overkill and a hassle when setting up. Using lighter weight materials to lighten the overall weight would make this a fantastic product. Should be more room inside for miscellaneous items for such a big and heavy case.
