Perfect for securing the codes to your nukes!

I looked for a few years for a nice briefcase, resolved not to spend $500 for a designer case nor $50 for one from Staples that I knew would get scratched and chewed up in time. I knew I wanted one wide enough and something that would keep everything in place, perhaps even work out of and place on the desk in the passenger seat. This case is awesome, to be sure. The bottom foam layer not only holds the laptop, but keep in mind that the foam is deep enough that folders, pads or brochures can lay underneath or on top, almost an inch of them, that helps. I could envision a more briefcase like bottom, with compartments like the top to hold more things, but it's packed with the easy to pluck or cut foam to keep your expensive Alienware laptop safe. I love the way it closes, combo lock, the latches are designed so well; every time you close it you just know. The handle is nice and ergonomic, with rubber coating; it's heavy, of course, but my other bags were almost 1/2 or 3/4 as much. Since space is at a premium, I think more carefully about what is in it, so no old papers or outdated files cluttering up the space like my old bags. Now when I travel I have everything there, right where I can see it. Be careful when you install the shoulder strap, I had the snap swivels turned inward and they scratched the sides for the first few days. For more room for equipment try the next size up, but this is a very nice, attention getting case that I'll hand down to my son. It would also look very cool all beat up and covered with stickers! For fun, the next time I fly I'm going to get a pair of handcuffs and attach it to my wrist and wear a suit!!!

EXTREMELY STURDY CASE! If you are looking for something to store a laptop for shipment in checked airline luggage due to the new electronics ban - this is the case for you. I weigh 230 lbs. I stood on this case and it barely gave more than 1/8 of an inch where my foot was and all the weight was focused. The interior padding is really thick offering a really good amount of space between the edge of the device (36 degrees) and the hardshell poycarb. case itself. That being said I deducted 1 star because it is somewhat heavy. It will cause you to leave a few things behind on a trip to make up for the weight of the case (even empty) and the exterior dimensions are such that only a full sized suitcase will carry it. I suspect it COULD be shipped desperately all by itself but for me - that offers a would be thieving TSA agent (and there are many) to much temptation. Also, the 3 digit combination lock is not operable by TSA. If you set this combo and lock it and TSA opens your luggage - they cannot get in without breaking the lock. So you will want to leave the latch in front unlocked or risk having the case destroyed when TSA insists on opening it.

Great case! The protection is exactly what I wanted and was easy to handle. It does weight a bit but worth it with the assurance of your possession being in tact and safe. I did get asked multiple times if I had a gun in there while traveling through the airport but with a simple ''just a laptop'' (which it was) it wasn't a problem. It does turn heads and gets much attention so be sure to keep it near. It has a lock and dial mechanism which is easy to use and the instructions are easy to understand. I highly recommend this case to anyone who wants unquestionable protection for their fragile equipment.

Strong case

Great product. I took my 17in Alienware to Afghanistan in it and didn't have a problem with it. The case was in my Stryker when we had a roll over and my laptop was fine. With stood a year of dust, dirt, and high temps without issue. I used it as a stool at times and never scratched my laptop. There ARE issues though on the civilian side. The case weighs 11 lbs or so, then you have to add the weight of whatever you put in it, my laptop weighs 13 lbs, so you can see it's heavy. Next, it's pretty much too big to carry on a plane, it doesn't fit in most over head bins and it does not fit well under the seats in front on you. I ended up putting mine on the floor and then resting my feet ontop of it. Realise the deminsions and the weight. Short of that mine survived an IED blast so I think you'll be safe.

Barely fits the Asus G751jt but it's possible
by Valued Customer on March 19, 2015

Barely fits the Asus G751jt laptop. It's a really tight fit. I had to cute a little of the foam that's not pluckable. That laptop has a round back, so the back middle sticks out a little more than where the vents are. The plucking part was very easy, Gives you so many choices. But I only had space for the laptop. The foam comes out with the laptop when i take out the laptop from the case. The vents are on the back of the laptop and i'm afraid the material of the foam will rub off and get particles into the vent, so I rap this laptop in the white fabric that came with the laptop. Everything else is perfect, sturdy, the latches are awesome, and it's easy to change the code. Make sure you to read the instructions on changing the code before you accidentley change the code and not know the number.

Great Mulitpurpose Case

This case worked perfectly for my AR-Pistol Build. It's slightly smaller in width then an average briefcase, but it makes it perfect for storage. This case came with the pull-an-pluck style foam, after carefully removing it to fit my parts I sprayed the foam with 3-4 coats of black plastidip. This makes the foam more rigid but flexible and keeps the edges from tearing from use. There is a tutorial on this on Youtube. It also makes the foam look great! A little hot glue here and there allowed me to keep the foam from pulling up while removing the parts. Worth every cent.

A solid case - very solid.

The Pelican case was a great fit for my 17'' MacBook Pro. I modified the foam to include an outer layer of memory foam to help buffer the asymmetrical configuration (to make space for the power supply) and due to the fact the depth of the case required extra padding for the bottom of the computer - as the configurable pick-n-pluck foam that comes with the case is quite thick and was not cut at half depth to accommodate thinner computers. Basically a computer like the MacBook Pro is too thin for such a thick pick-n-pluck block of foam and the computer would otherwise flop around in the square opening. The thick block of pick-n-pluck foam is likely perfect for a desktop replacement PC sized computer. Ultimately, the ''reconfigured'' Jane Fonda memory foam yoga mat worked great. Finally, something related to Jane Fonda actually has a use.

Perfection, as always with Pelican cases!

5+/5 stars. Every time for Pelican cases!Seriously, I have an unhealthy obsession with Pelican cases, but it's for a good reason. They are practically invulnerable under normal circumstances. There isn't really much to be added to be honest. They're super high quality, you get exactly what you pay for, IMO. When I use the included pick and pluck foam, I prefer to use a vulcanizing compound to adhere the sections in place, and to seal up the edges. The foam can get pretty flimsy if you take a ton out, and it has a tendency to bow upward and distort laterally. One thing that is definitely a challenge, is getting all of my peripherals to fit in the case. I opted for this version over the CC version, since the organizer is way too overpriced, IMO. I also know that I can fit more items, more effectively than Pelican organizers can, from experience. B)I will add pictures when my compound is done setting later tonight. If you are thinking about this case vs a competitors? STOP thinking, and buy the Pelican. With a forever warranty and the super-high quality of these products, you really can't get any better than this. I could throw this case down a water slide at the water park, throw it down the stairs, or throw if off of my single story home, and nothing will hurt the contents of the case. Update: photo attached. I am squeezing just about all of the storageĀ³ out of this case, and it's perfect! Minimally related thought; I wish pelican had a loyalty program. I think I'd get a free case or two!

Over-engineered. Not a minus! Also, probably zombie-proof.

I've heard it said that if something is worth building, its worth over-building. I bought this for my wife to schlep her laptop on business trips, where she is often out in the field (most of the time it IS a field) with heavy equipment, such as drill rigs and excavators flinging dirt, debris and mud all over the place. Quality is typical of Pelican's products: sturdy and heavy duty impact protection. I have no doubt it would protect her laptop from any fall it could reasonably suffer or a sudden downpour or even a zombie invasion (zombies have poor dexterity, you see, and the latches would probably foil their attempts to get into it).

Tough Case
by Valued Customer on October 31, 2015
Verified Purchase

It's tough and rugged, just like pelican products have been known for. I've taken it with me on day to day trips and it works well. Other than the weird looks from some people on campus, it's great. That being said, it is not at all subtle in looks or operation, the locking latches are loud but that's the trade off for this level of protection. No complaints from me, it was well worth the purchase.
