Well worth it!

Great product and does everything as advertised. We now have four of these in the family and will always use Pelican hard cases to protect our laptops. The online price is the best around and they arrived before expected! My only complaint on this one was that it was advertised as fitting a 13'' Macbook Pro but when I got it, it was too big and allowed the laptop to slide around inside. It didn't end up being a problem since I just stole a couple of pieces from my brother's case, that came with the cut-to-fit-foam, and used that to re-size mine. But I would recommend getting the 1085 with foam if you have a 13''. You'll get a better interior fit. Also, I definitely recommend using some industrial velcro and making your own tab to keep the case closed. We travel a lot and, before I put the velcro on, had a couple instances of catching the standard clip on the strap on another bag that was on the same should and accidentally opening the case, almost losing the laptop to a bad fall. So take the extra 10 minutes and give yourself the peace of mind and security. It's worth it!

If your looking for something for a Macbook Pro, I would think again.

Its okay. I bought this for my 13'' Macbook Pro without Retina display. I was expecting it to fit a lot better (as I had also purchased Pelican Case 1075 for my iPad 2 a few years ago and love the way that the case fits that device). But I wound that my Macbook fits in the case with a ton of room to spare and actually slides around inside the case even after it is closed. I guess I should have purchased the case with the foam that I could form instead of assuming that this case for laptops would work for what I had hoped. So it is now sitting in my garage in the box and I now use my STM shoulder bag for my Macbook.

Good hard case but not up to standards I expect from Pelican
by Valued Customer on September 19, 2014
Verified Purchase

Overall, this is a good hard case. It will certainly protect my laptop from small falls and bumps. Unfortunately, it just isn't up to the quality I expect from Pelican. I have multiple other large cases from them and don't worry when my gear gets splashed, banged, or even temporary submerged. When I got this case, I noticed this plastic was a little flimsy and bowed a bit at the edges. I put it (empty) under a few inches of water. After a few seconds it leaked and let in a cup of water. When I called pelican, the person on the phone told me that the case wasn't supposed to be waterproof. The box claims the case is waterproof up to 3 feet. I still use the case because it is the slimmest hard case I could find. As many other users, I have a piece of industrial velcro over the latch so it doesn't pop open. I just wish Pelican would address the problems with this case and bring it up to the quality standards of their other cases.

15'' MacBook Pro ''fits'', but you could fit TWO in there because the case is so thick.
by Valued Customer on July 19, 2018

After reading the many reviews stating that a 15'' MacBook Retina Pro fits in the case, I purchased this. It arrived tonight and while the reviews weren't incorrect, they failed to state the the case is so thick relative to the MBP that I could fit two in there. The case provides the protection I am looking for, but it is twice as thick as it needs to be - mostly to be a generic product to fit ''most 14-inch laptops'' (including the ''15'' inch MBP). I am going to try it tomorrow in my backpack but I think I'll end up sending it back because it is way too bulky for the protection it provides. I may as well just buy the 100% waterproof Pelican 1490 and have real protection for the times that I put my laptop in the side bag on my motorcycle and if I were to crash - I would be confident the laptop would be ok. Great Case!
by Valued Customer on September 18, 2016

This review is for. Pelican Products 1085CC HardBack Case with Computer LinerThe case is made very well. The foam cushion inside is a thinner firm molded foam with a fabric covering. There isn't a way to form, configure or arrange any pieces of foam around the laptop. Having said that the design cushion and protects the laptop very well. Just make sure you get the proper size case as Pelican makes this in deferent sizes. There is a rubber seal to keep dust and water out though as other reviewers have mention if the case was squeezed twisted or had substantial weight on it it may not seal. The single latch on the front is very good and makes it convenient to secure. There is shoulder strap but no carry handle though I was able to shorten the strap and use it as a handle. This case was ordered for use with a Dell Inspiron 7000. It fits with just enough room to include the folded power cord. Very nice case in all.

Lets me not feel guilty of mishandling my laptop
by Valued Customer on June 26, 2018

I have it (and use heavily) since 2016. I got it for 2014 15'' MBPr, which fits without issues. The reason I got this Pelican originally were keyboard marks on laptop's screen. I thought packing my backpacks/bags full of other gear pressing on the laptop had something to do with it, so I got this case to ensure I either unload the bag or at least carry the laptop separately. I don't like to be overly careful with things, but those keyboard prints were a bit distracting. The protection also offers a nice little bonus in that now I don't have to feel guilty of being careless with the bag my laptop is in, especially if I'm tired and passing through security checks as in in an airport (I can just shove the case onto the conveyor belt). I often carry the laptop inside this case alone by the strap (either grabbing as a handle or wearing on a shoulder), especially if I'm heading out for a brief work session where I won't need the charger (which, or pretty much anything else except for some papers, wouldn't fit in the Pelican if the laptop is there) and there's not much precipitation. Other times I pack it in a bag. When I stood on top of the case as a test, it only gave in slightly and let out a bit of air, and I don't think it exerted any pressure on the laptop inside. I'm not too heavy but it's a nice reassurance. I'm confident in both the case and the strap at this point.

Fits my 15'' Macbook Pro HRD perfectly!
by Valued Customer on March 24, 2013
Verified Purchase

The 1085CC is a perfect fit for the Macbook Pro HRD 15. 4''. I know that they suggest the larger case for 15'' laptops, but the HRD is a really good fit. Just add some weatherstripping around the perimeter, and some extra on the bottom left and right, and you will have a smaller profile hardshell case, that still fits into a backpack or messenger carry bag, like I do. It comes with a carry strap, but I don't suggest it for ''single carry''. I shortened the carry strap, to use as a pull strap, to extract it from my backpack, and I plan to add a 2'' velcro belt strap to secure closure. The Pelican latch is solid, (as all Pelican latches have always been), but when you depend on your computer for income, it's a great investment. A 10. 5'' x 14'' chunk of eggshell foam (from a local hardware store) helps secure any remaining space. This supplier was fast, and the product authentic Pelican retail packaging, with warranties. Very highly recommended.

Poor protection, poor closure
by Valued Customer on July 23, 2013

I used this for my MacBook Pro (not sure of the size, but it is the smallest one they make). I had to put it in another case inside of the Pelican so that it did not shift around. Then it is very hard to close the case because you have a computer and a case inside, but you have to close it perfectly to get the waterproofing desired. The clip that closes the case is not good. If it rubs up against something, it will open. You need to wrap the case in some kind of strap. I still give it 3 stars, because I put it in my checked bag for traveling over 4, 000 miles (both ways) and my computer was safe. I also had it on a sail boat and my computer stayed dry. It just takes a long time to pack it up and you must use a strap to keep it closed.

Convenient protective case for documents
by Valued Customer on February 20, 2017
Verified Purchase

Case is the exact right size for documents or a small computer. Pelican does a wonderful job, as always. The one drawback is that there is no handle, only a shoulder strap. Since I wasn't planning to use it that way, I made the strap as short as it goes and it functions more or less as a handle. I'm not sure what they wouldn't include a handle. That is the only thing that takes it from 5 stars down to four.

Best laptop hardcase.
by Valued Customer on November 16, 2013

Protected my laptop in a soft backpack all around the world. Seriously, my laptop does not have a single scratch or dent on it after airports and taxis and all sorts of not friendly handling. DO NOT USE THE SHOULDER STRAP. I tossed that garbage away. This thing is definitely designed to live inside another container, like a backpack or a briefcase. The lid does not lock like regular pelican cases, and I like that. However, if you use the shoulder strap it's likely that your belt will catch on the latch and open the case by mistake. Also, airport security usually doesn't ask you to remove your laptop from this case. I guess it looks like a laptop enough that they don't notice.
